Dr. AUSTIN Burkenstock
Dr. Austin Burkenstock was born in New Orleans while his mother Dr. Kelly Burkenstock was in medical school at LSU. He is a 2010 graduate of Northlake Christian High School and then attended Mississippi State University where he graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors. Dr. Burkenstock pursued his medical training at William Carey University, followed by his Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He was then selected as Chief Resident at the University Medical Center, marking the completion of his arduous pursuit to become an Internal Medicine physician.
Dr. Burkenstock thoroughly enjoys academic medicine. During his chief resident year, he was able to grow his passion for academic learning. He is currently on staff at the University of Medicine Medical Center, as well as the VA Medical Center, where he is able to teach students and Internal Medicine residents clinical medicine at the bedside. In addition to inpatient academic medicine, he thoroughly enjoys the relationships he is able to build and grow with his patients in the clinic. He treats each patient as if they are his own family, a quality he knows is unique in today’s fast-paced healthcare.
One of Dr. Burkenstock’s passions is humanitarian medical care. Each year, he provides medical care and treatment in unison with The Samaritan’s Purse in Central America. Additionally, he enjoys socializing with friends, has an exquisite appreciation for gastronomy, takes joy in promoting a healthy lifestyle with daily exercise, and he is passionate about traveling the world and exploring new cultures.
